The world's largest oil company Saudi Aramco will invite engineering firms to bid for a contract to build an estimated $8bn refinery in eastern Saudi Arabia, according to Saudi news reports.

The refinery is expected to process 400,000 barrels of Saudi crude a day by 2012 at Ras Tanura on the Persian Gulf, already home to the country's largest refinery.
