Nord Stream to Re-Route New Gas Pipeline

22 August 2007 12:07

The Nord Stream consortium will re-route a gas pipeline from the Baltic Sea between Russia and Germany to run north rather than south following environmental protests and legal issues.

The new route – which will add 8km to the length of the pipeline -will circumvent the Danish island of Bornholm and is expected to minimise any environmental impact.

Nord Stream say studies indicate that a more northerly route will be further away from known munitions dump sites south of Bornholm.
