Offshore Workers Remain in Wake of New Hurricane

03 September 2007 11:19

Hurricane Felix is threatening the US Gulf and southern Caribbean as the dangerous Category 5 storm heads towards Central America and Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

US gas and oil producers are monitoring Felix but have so far not evacuated offshore workers, according to local reports.

Oil and natural gas producers in the US Gulf of Mexico account for a third of crude and 15% of natural gas production.

Category 5 storms are rare – in 2005 the Atlantic experienced four including Katrina and Wilma, the strongest Atlantic storm ever recorded.
