Soldiers Patrol Mexico Pipelines

11 September 2007 12:48

Soldiers are guarding Mexico's oil and gas works after a series of explosions damaged six pipelines.

Run by state-run oil company Petróleos Mexicanos, the pipelines are situated in the eastern state of Veracruz and are believed to have been targeted by Marxist rebels.

It is the second attack in three months from the so-called People's Revolutionary Army.

Natural gas prices in the US surged today following the explosions.
