Statoil Discovers Oil in North Sea Ragnarrock Prospect

18 September 2007 11:37

Norwegian oil and gas giant Statoil has discovered oil in the little explored Ragnarrock prospect near the Sleipner area in the North Sea.

The find was made in an exploration well drilled to a total depth of 1,856m below sea level in production licence 265, which lies 35km east of the Statoil-operated Gudrun discovery.

The exploration well is now being permanently plugged and abandoned by the West Epsilon jack-up rig.

Statoil says it is currently compiling data and analysing samples from the well.
