Tribunal Begins Over North Sea Staff Holiday Demands08 October 2007 14:46 An employment tribunal involving more than 200 North Sea catering and drilling staff began in Aberdeen, Scotland today. The action was brought by workers who believe they are entitled to four weeks of paid holiday in addition to time off between shifts. But the representative body for the UK offshore industry, Oil and Gas UK, disagrees with the action and will present its case over the next few weeks at the hearing. "Everyone knows that offshore workers in the UK oil and gas industry enjoy above average employment terms and conditions and typically have at least 26 weeks off a year." The organisation also calls for 'clarity' in the way legislation has been drafted to avoid challenges from both sides. By staff writer » Email this link to a friend |
