Total and Inpex Find Gas in Indonesia

12 October 2007 17:20

France's Total and Japanese oil and gas exploration company Inpex have made two gas discoveries in the southern part of the Mahakam block in Indonesia.

The discoveries lie 45km from Balikpapan near the Total operated Stupa field.

The East Mandu-1 and West Stupa-1 wells encountered 164m and 72m of 'good quality' gas bearing reservoirs respectively, when drilled to water depths of 60m.

Total plans to develop the fields together with Stupa, which the company expects will be sanctioned in the coming months for an entry into production expected by 2012.

Total is joint operator of the Mahakam block with partner Inpex.
