Shell Puts Out Last of Nigerian Pipeline Fires

19 October 2007 16:44

Anglo-Dutch supermajor Royal Dutch Shell has put out the last of six fires which have blazed for four months on a large oil export pipeline in Nigeria.

The fires started after holes were drilled into a section of pipeline in the southern state of Rivers in June.

A spokesman for the company has told Reuters the fires have not had a significant impact on production and exports.

The Niger Delta has a history of disputes between local communites and oil companies, fueling concerns that the fires may have been the result of vandalism.
