BP to Slash North Sea Workforce25 October 2007 12:55 UK oil major BP is slashing its North Sea workforce due to declining production and maturing fields which it says has created unsustainable working conditions. The company estimates about 350 positions out of 2,100 contractors including onshore staff may be affected, based mainly in Aberdeen, Scotland. BP says the new structure will mean fewer organisational units and reduced management layers to "allow consolidation of onshore non-technical support activities". BP has been operating in the North Sea for over 40 years and currently produces approxomately 350,000 barrels of oil and gas a day. Last month, BP chief Tony Hayward announced a major shake-up of the business following poor revenues. By staff writer » Email this link to a friend |
