Oil Companies Compete for Bahrain Facility Upgrade

02 November 2007 12:41

Eight international oil companies have submitted bids to carry out a major upgrade of Bahrain's oil production facilities, writes the Gulf Daily News.

The project has attracted a high level of international interest, Bahrain's Minister of Oil and Gas Affairs Dr Abdulhussain Mirza told the newspaper.

"They are bidding for a number of things - the most important thing is to use new technology to increase the level of production of the Bahrain field and also to increase the level of reserves. So the benefit is two-fold - an increase in both the production of oil and gas and the reserves of oil and gas," Dr Mirza says.

Bids have been received from US oil major ExxonMobil, US-based Occidental, Danish exploration company Maersk, UK-based Vitol, Thailand's oil and gas company PTT, Canada's Vernex Energy, US-based Bankers Petroleum and Anglo-Dutch exploration company Delta Hydrocarbons.

The bids are expected to receive evaluation before recommendations are made to the country’s National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA).
