Total Wins Thai Gas Field Extension

06 November 2007 12:16

Oil major Total has signed a ten-year deal with the Thai Government to extend production of three blocks in the Bongkot gas field in the Gulf of Thailand.

The extension of the leases from 2012 to 2023 in blocks B15, B16 and B17 should enable Total to launch a new development in the area, the company says.

The development, expected to begin in 2008 after an agreement is reached on the commercial terms of gas sales, will increase production volume by 300 million cubic feet per day.

Total says this will push Bongkot production capacity to approximately 900 million cubic feet per day by the beginning of the next decade.

Bongkot has been in production since 1993 and reached production levels equivalent to 41,000 barrels of oil a day in 2006.
