Saipem Wins $860m drilling deal

Italian drilling contractor Saipem has won a US$860m contract for the charter of its new semi-submersible drilling rig Scarabeo 9.

The contract, signed with Italian oil and gas company Eni, is for drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico, between the end of 2009 and 2014.

Saipem’s newly acquired deepwater semi-submersible drilling rig Scarabeo 9 is capable of operating in water depths of up to 3,600 meters and is currently under construction in China, due to be completed in 2009.
