Transocean Closes Deal For GlobalSantaFe

US drilling contractor Transocean has closed a multibillion-dollar deal for competitor GlobalSantaFe, creating a company worth about US$60bn.

The deal includes a US$15bn cash payout to shareholders of both companies.

The combined company has 140 mobile offshore drilling rigs with eight additional ultra-deepwater rigs under construction.
