Woodside Resumes Oil Production in Oz

02 January 2008 14:51

Australia's second-largest oil and gas producer, Woodside Petroleum, has resumed production at its 50,000 barrels per day (bpd) Enfield oil field in Western Australia following a cyclone threat.

Production at the 70,000 bpd Cossack-Pioneer oil field in Northwest Australia was also expected to resume later in the day, the company told Reuters news agency.

Meanwhile, an electrical fault at the company's North West Shelf Venture's Karratha Gas Plant also resulted in a production shutdown today.

Woodside says no casualties have been reported and it is investigating the cause of the incident.

In a statement released today, Woodside says production of domestic gas will resume later this week while LNG production will recommence following the re-start of domestic gas production.

Production forecasts for the year are not expected to be affected by the disruption.
