07 January 2008 11:31

Italian oil and gas giant Eni has held talks with the Tunisian Government over the future of the Transmed gas pipeline and the development of two oil and gas fields.

The Transmed pipeline links Italy to Algerian fields through Tunisia and the Mediterranean Sea.

The Rome-based company did not provide further details of what was discussed regarding the pipeline project.

Eni CEO Paolo Scaroni and Tunisian Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi also discussed the development of two oil and gas fields located in the Gulf of Hammamet, which are expected to make a "substantial" contribution to Tunisia's energy supply, writes Dow Jones.
