30 January 2008 14:33

Eni SpA's gas discovery at production license 122 in the North Sea holds up to 1,219 billion cubic metres of recoverable gas, significantly more than originally thought, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has announced.

Initially, the discovery was believed to hold approximately 6.7 billion cubic metres of recoverable gas and 0.4 billion cubic metres of recoverable condensate.

This amount was raised to to 12-19 billion cubic metres of gas and 0.81.1 billion cubic metres of condensate by the NPD.

The original discovery, located southwest of the Norne field, was made in 1992.
