Britannia Back on Track Following Weekend Hoax

11 February 2008

A 23-year-old woman will appear in court today over an alleged bomb hoax that closed the Britannia gas field in the North Sea on Sunday.

Production has restarted on what is one of Britain's biggest gas fields following the ordeal, which lead to more than 160 people being evacuated.

The British woman, whose relationship to the Chevron Texaco-operated rig is still unknown, is alleged to have claimed a suspicious device was onboard the Safe Scandinavia rig.

More than 500 people were onboard the rig at the time.

Britannia is situated 210km northeast of Aberdeen and covers approximately 112km².

The subsea produces approximately 25% of Britannia's reserves.
