Maersk Plans Qatar Drilling Operation

Danish oil company Maersk Oil has announced plans to drill up to six horizontal wells at the Al Shaheen Field, offshore Qatar, as part of a development plan with Qatar Petroleum.

Maersk was awarded an extension area to Block 5 to appraise development opportunities in 2004, with oil production expected to reach a level of up to 6,000 bpd in early 2010, the company told Reuters in a statement.
