Nigerian Pipeline Explodes

16 May 2008 11:52

A Nigerian gas pipeline has exploded near Lagos, causing a fire and killing a number of people, according to local reports.

The pipeline, in the Ijegun district, is believed to be part of a fuel-distribution network running from Lagos Port.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the explosion may have been caused by vandals trying to steal fuel from the pipelines, writes Bloomberg.

Nigeria is Africa's biggest oil producer.
