American Oil and gas explorer BPZ Energy has started production on the Albacora A-18D development well located in offshore Peru at an average rate of about 2,100 barrels of oil per day (bopd), or 1,071bopd net.

The new well, which completed drilling in December 2013, flowed naturally with an 11% water cut from perforations in three intervals totaling approximately 130ft.

BPZ Energy said that the well has averaged gross production of about 2,250bopd (1,147bopd net). In addition to this, the explorer has spudded the Albacora A-18D development well on 1 January 2014, aiming for a total measured depth of 12,500ft.

BPZ further said that it is continuing development drilling of the CX15-2D well with completion expected by the end of this month. A couple of weeks ago, the drill pipe stuck in the wellbore after hitting a depth of 8,750ft.

Following several attempts to free the pipe, BPZ decided to sidetrack the well and re-drill the final 2,300ft section after evaluating electric logs and observing good oil shows while drilling the targeted oil section.

"The new well, which completed drilling in December 2013, flowed naturally with an 11% water cut from perforations."

During evaluation, the CX15-1D development well on Corvina field produced an average of 440bopd (224bopd net) from the third interval with a water cut of 8%.

Block Z-1 average gross production was 2,760bopd (1,408bopd net) in 2013.

BPZ, which two platforms on Corvina field, holds a 51% working interest in Block Z-1, which it is developing in partnership with Pacific Rubiales Energy.
