The Inpex-led Ichthys liquefied natural gas (LNG) project has received its central processing facility (CPF), Ichthys Explore, 220km off the north coast of Western Australia in the Browse basin.

The semi-submersible platform weighs around 120,000t, with topside dimensions measuring 130m by 120m.

It is scheduled to be located at the LNG project for 40 years.

Ichthys Project managing director Louis Bon said: “The safe completion of the 5,600km tow of the Ichthys Explorer from South Korea to the Ichthys Field, located 450km north of Broome, is another significant milestone for the Ichthys LNG Project.

“The successful 34-day tow is a tribute to our world-class processes and the commitment of our personnel from around the globe.”

The company plans to start the hook-up process and commissioning after Ichthys Explorer is safely moored in the 250m deepwaters of Ichthys Field.

Ichthys Explorer will be responsible for initial processing of all well fluids collected from an extensive 130km network of subsea well infrastructure.

Gas from the facility will be transported to the onshore LNG facility located at Bladin Point near Darwin for further processing through an 890km subsea pipeline.

Most of the accumulated condensate and water from the CPF will be transferred to Ichthys Venturer, a floating production, storage and offloading facility (FPSO) at the project.
