Swedish oil and gas company Lundin Petroleum has confirmed the northern extension of the Aldous Major South discovery, which is located in the Norwegian North Sea.
The Aldous Major South discovery is an extension of the Avaldsnes discovery made by Lundin Petroleum.
Located in PL 265, the well was drilled using the semi-submersible rig Transocean Leader and identified a 55m oil column in Jurassic sandstone.
Preliminary calculations of the size of the discovery are between 1.2 billion and 2.6 billion barrels of recoverable oil equivalent for this part of the structure.
Lundin Petroleum holds a 10% stake in PL265, Statoil Petroleum has 40%, Petoro holds 30% and Det Norske Oljeselskap has 20%.
