Statoil to drill exploration well in Barents Sea


Petroleum Safety Authority of Norway has given its approval to Statoil to drill an exploration well in block 7435/12 in the Barents Sea.  

The well will be drilled in a prospect, called Korpfjell in block 7435/12.

The drilling location is in the northern sector of the Barents Sea South-East area, 37km from the Russian boundary and 415km from the Norwegian mainland. Coordinates of the drilling will be 74° 04' 18.12" North and 35° 48' 30.96" East, with water depths of 253m.

The well will be drilled by Songa Enabler, a semi-submersible mobile drilling facility of the CAT D type.

The mobile drilling facility was delivered by the Daewoo yard in South Korea in 2016, and is owned and operated by Songa Offshore. It is registered in Norway and classified by DNV GL.

Last July, PSA has issued an acknowledgement of compliance to Songa Enabler.
