China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract to French engineering firm Technip and its consortium partner China Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC) for two tension leg platforms (TLPs).

The TLPs will be installed at the Liuhua 11-1 and 16-2 joint development project located in the South China Sea.

TLP is a floating production platform anchored by tensioned cables to limit vertical movement caused by heavy swells. The platform design allows for the well heads to be located at the surface, on the platform.

The Liuhua 11-1 oil field is the largest oil field in the South China Sea.

This is the second contract win by Technip this week.

Previously, Technip was awarded a contract to replace the existing assets for the Triton floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, operated by Dana Petroleum, located in the central North Sea.

Located 193km east of Aberdeen, the FPSO produces oil and gas from Bittern, Guillemot West and North West, Clapham, Pict and Saxon.
