The global acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) capacity is poised to see considerable growth over the next five years, potentially increasing from 11.36Mtpa in 2019 to 13.49Mtpa in 2024, registering total growth of 19%.

GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) Industry Outlook to 2024 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants’ states that around ten planned and announced plants are slated to come online primarily in Asia and the Middle East.

Within Asia, China has three planned and announced ABS plants, with a total capacity of about 1.60Mtpa by 2024. The country is expected to spend a capital expenditure (CapEx) of $1.07bn. Major capacity additions will be from Ineos Ltd and China National Petroleum Corp.

In the Middle East, Iran is the only country with one planned capacity additions of about 0.20Mtpa by 2024. The country is expected to spend a total of $0.08 billion by 2024. The National Petrochemical Co is the only company accounting for the entire capacity additions in Iran.

Europe has two planned ABS plants of which France has one with the capacity additions of about 0.05Mtpa by 2024. The country is expected to spend a total of $0.72bn by 2024.

In North America, Mexico is the only country with one planned capacity additions of about 0.07Mtpa by 2024. The country is expected to spend a total of $0.03bn by 2024.
