Offshore Technology Excellence Rankings 2022 – The Verdict

Equinor is a Norwegian headquartered oil and gas corporation that is ranked for Business Expansion, Environmental and Investments in the 2022 Offshore Technology Excellence Rankings.

The company has been active in exploration in offshore Norway and has made significant oil and gas discoveries in the area. It also secured drilling permits for the area and production licences; the company won 12 licences as operator and 14 as partner. The company also secured approval for a $12bn Canadian offshore oil project. 

Elsewhere Equinor and its partners began development of Phase 1 of the Kristin South project in the Norwegian Sea; the first phase involves the development of two discoveries Lavrans and Kristin Q and is estimated to cost approximately $753.43m (Nkr6.5bn). The company and its partners also secured approval for their plan for development and operation (PDO) of the Breidablikk field in the Norwegian North Sea.

Other highlights included the company undertaking manned underwater operations (MUO) to support its offshore operations; and the project Northern Lights CCS which will explore direct air carbon capture including looking at the supply chain and emissions from the proposed process.

The company also plans to invest $8.7bn to develop the Norwegian offshore field; estimated to contain nearly 500 million barrels of oil equivalent, the Wisting field will become the world’s northernmost oilfield.
