Global ethylene glycol (EG) capacity is poised to see considerable growth over the next five years, potentially increasing from 42.09mtpa in 2020 to 71.83mtpa in 2025, registering total growth of 71%.
GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Ethylene Glycol (EG) Industry Outlook to 2025 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants’ states that around 52 planned and announced plants are slated to come online primarily in Asia and Middle East.
Within Asia, India has 20 planned and announced Butadiene capacity additions, with a total capacity of about 12.78mtpa by 2025. The country is expected to spend a capital expenditure (Capex) of $5.19bn. Major capacity additions will be from, two planned projects Jiaxing Sanjiang Petrochemical Company Jiaxing Ethylene Glycol Plant 2 and Jiutai Energy Inner Mongolia Company Ordos Barun Gar Domda Ethylene Glycol Plant.
In Middle East, Saudi Arabia has one planned project with the capacity additions of about 0.70mtpa by 2021. The country is expected to spend a total of $0.16bn by 2025. Jubail United Petrochemical Company Al-Jubail Ethylene Glycol Plant 3 is the only plant accounting for the entire capacity additions in the country.
Reliance Industries Ltd, Zhejiang Satellite Petrochemical Co Ltd and China Petrochemical Corp will be the top three companies globally in terms of planned and announced capacity additions over the upcoming years.
