Asia set to drive Global Propylene Capacity Additions by 2025

Global Propylene capacity is poised to see considerable growth over the next five years, potentially increasing from 133.31 mtpa in 2020 to 187.74 mtpa in 2025, registering total growth of 41 percent.

GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Propylene Industry Outlook to 2025 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned plants states that around 106 planned and announced plants are slated to come online primarily in Asia and Middle East.

Within Asia, China has 42 planned Propylene capacity, with a total capacity of about 24.77 mtpa by 2025. The country is expected to spend a capital expenditure (capex) of US$17.10 billion. Major capacity additions will be from a planned project, Shandong Yulong Petrochemical Longkou Propylene Plant 1.

Middle East has 16 planned and announced projects, of which Saudi Arabia contributes 2.19 mtpa by 2025. The capex for the plant is US$2.08 billion. In Africa, Egypt has two planned projects with the capacity additions of about 1.43 mtpa. The country is expected to spend a total of US$0.80 billion. Major capacity additions will be from a planned project Tahrir Petrochemicals Company Ain Sokhna Propylene Plant is the major plant accounting the capacity additions in Africa. Oriental Energy Co Ltd, Shandong Yulong Petrochemical Ltd and Indian Oil Corp Ltd will be the top three companies globally in terms of planned and announced capacity additions over the upcoming years.
