GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global LNG New-Build and Expansion Projects Outlook to 2026’, indicates a total of 181 liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects are expected to start operations from 2022 to 2026. Of these, 126 represent regasification projects and 55 are liquefaction projects.

Globally, 27 LNG liquefaction projects are in the approval stage and likely to start operations from 2022 to 2026. Construction and feasibility are the other major project stages with 16 and 10, respectively.

North America leads globally, accounting for 31 of the liquefaction projects starts by 2026. Africa is another major region, with seven projects expected to start operations by 2026.

Among countries, the US would lead globally with the highest number of project starts (21) by 2026. Mexico would witness the start of operation of eight projects.
