GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Midstream New-Build and Expansion Projects Outlook, 2021-2025 – Transmission Pipelines Dominate Global Midstream Project Starts’, indicates that 1,174 upcoming midstream projects are expected to start operations during the 2021 to 2025 outlook period. Of these, 1,073 represent newbuild projects and 101 are expansions of existing projects.

Among the midstream segments, the trunk/transmission pipelines segment is expected to lead in terms of the highest number of projects globally with 509 during the 2021 to 2025 period. Liquids storage and gas processing segments follow with 276 and 146 projects, respectively.

The construction stage has the highest number of upcoming projects with 508, followed by approval and feasibility stages with 320 and 236 projects, respectively.

Among the midstream projects, liquefied natural gas (LNG) liquefaction, pipelines, liquids storage, gas processing and gas storage projects have the highest number of projects in the construction stage, while the majority of LNG regasification projects are in the approval stage.
