The Institute of Document Control (IDC) was founded on 1 September 2010 with the long-term intention to create a recognised and respected professional body for document controllers.

The institute aims to promote the discipline of document control and to provide services to anyone working in the discipline across the world. The IDC is currently managed by a small group of volunteers. At some stage, there will be a need for membership fees to make it sustainable and to begin to provide full services. In the interim, membership will remain free in the hope that we will be able to build a community of interested members and to create a genuine culture of participation.

The IDC needs you! They need your advice, your opinions and your time, if your institute is to be a success. Please spread the word and help the IDC to grow.

For the rest of 2010, services provided by the institute will be very basic. The focus will be on sharing information and creating interest in membership. The institute will rely heavily on the document control community to buy in to the value of the idea and to help them promote it through word of mouth. The sooner the institute reaches a critical mass of membership and agree suitable fees, the sooner they will be able to begin building services that provide value to members.
The IDC plan is to provide basic services in the following areas:

  • Training
  • Accreditation
  • Best Practice
  • Discipline promotion
  • Information
  • Networking
  • Events
