Recently one of our ALD team was called out to the Middle East on an urgent base for a leak inspection on new subsea installation, including a 20in pipeline and a number of flanges and valves. The hydrotest revealed a flow loos of just 0.2l/min (about 0.05gal/min) when pressurised at 2200psi.
This was the smallest leak ever faced by ALD in the field and an exciting challenge for our company. To guarantee the best accuracy of flanges and valves it was decided to use ALD in diver version, where detailed inspection procedures have been defined in cooperation with the diver superintendent and client rep. As a result, the leak was detected at the first attempt on a ball valve. Note that before mobilising ALD the pipeline was filled with green dye and inspected visually without results.
This was the 35th leak detected by ALD in 14 years of activity and the smallest ever; a great gift for Co.L.Mar’s 30th anniversary.
