The global oil & gas industry noticed a 2.7% rise in IT hiring activity in July 2021 over the previous month, led by Exxon Mobil’s 15.83% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The oil & gas industry’s overall hiring activity increased by 4.95% when compared with June 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 5.63% share of the global oil & gas industry’s hiring activity in July 2021, down 0.03% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2021 were 1.53% higher compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 2.51% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive oil & gas IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 52.82% emerged as the top IT occupation in the oil & gas hiring activity in July 2021, a 3.78% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 14.4% in July 2021, down 2.17% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 10.31% share in July 2021, decline of 8.49% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with an 8.34% share in July 2021 and rise of 44.04% over June 2021.
Top five oil & gas companies by recruitment activity in July 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average an increase of 14.64% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global oil & gas industry during July 2021 over June 2021.
Exxon Mobil posted 298 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a flat growth over the previous month, followed by Reliance Industries with 108 jobs and an 18.18% decline. Henkel AGKGaA with 104 IT jobs and Baker Hughes Holdings with 94 jobs, recorded a 285.19% increase and a 20.51% growth, respectively, while TotalEnergies recorded a 27.4% growth with 93 job postings during July 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in oil & gas industry
Asia-Pacific emerged as the leading region in the global oil & gas IT hiring activity in July 2021 with a 35.02% share, which marked an 8.6% drop over the previous month.
North America stood next with 33.42%, registering a 13.13% month-on-month increase. Europe was the third leading region with a 21.36% share and a 7.2% rise over June 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 8.13% and a month-on-month drop of 21.54%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 2.07%, registering a 56% increase over the previous month.
