Notably, Management Occupations jobs accounted for a 12% share of the global oil and gas industry’s social responsibility-related total new job postings in Q1 2023, up 0.51% over the prior quarter.

Management Occupations drive social responsibility-related hiring activity

Management Occupations, with a share of 12%, emerged as the top social responsibility-related job roles within the oil and gas industry in Q1 2023, with new job postings rising by 0.51% quarter-on-quarter. Architecture and Engineering Occupations came in second with a share of 10% in Q1 2023, with new job postings rising by 12% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent social responsibility roles include Office and Administrative Support Occupations with an 8% share in Q1 2023, Transportation and Material Moving Occupations with a 8% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in oil and gas industry accounted for 20% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q1 2023 were Holly Energy Partners, LyondellBasell Industries, BASF, Royal DSM, and John Wood Group. Together they accounted for a combined share of 20% of all social responsibility-related new jobs in the oil and gas industry.

Holly Energy Partners posted 1,205 social responsibility-related new jobs in Q1 2023, LyondellBasell Industries 1,129 jobs, BASF 615 jobs, Royal DSM 603 jobs, and John Wood Group 496 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 62.93% share of total new job postings, Q1 2023

The largest share of social responsibility-related new job postings in the oil and gas industry in Q1 2023 was in the US with 62.93% followed by the UK (6.63%) and India (5.22%). The share represented by the US was 0 percentage points lower than the 63.33% share it accounted for in Q4 2022.
