November’s top stories: Hurricane Energy to use Aoka Mizu FPSO, CGG provided seismic data

Hurricane Energy signed agreement to use Aoka Mizu FPSO at Lancaster field

UK-based oil exploration company Hurricane Energy signed a heads of terms deal with Bluewater Energy Services to use Aoka Mizu Floating Production Storage and Offloading Vessel (FPSO) on Lancaster field, west of Shetland.

Hurricane planned to use this Aoka Mizu FPSO for Early Production System (EPS) phase of development. It will also have the right to extend the contract for up to ten years.

Under the agreement, Bluewater Energy (BES) gave Hurricane an exclusive right to enter a fully termed agreement until November 2017.

CGG provided further details on Northern Viking Graben integrated geoscience solution

CGG provided further details about the seismic data study performed by its integrated geosciences Northern Viking Graben solution, which covered around 36,000km² in the offshore regions of Norway and the UK.

The study encompasses combining broadband seismic data with geology, well data and reservoir characterisation that help identify new prospects in the area. Northern North Sea already hosts large discoveries such as Troll, Statfjord and Brage.

The Northern Viking Graben multi-client broadband seismic survey was conducted using CGG’s full-bandwidth BroadSeis-BroadSource solution.

USGS and NASA study revealed vast coastal land losses from 2010 Gulf Oil Spill

A study by United States Geological Survey (USGS) and NASA found extensive shoreline loss along heavily oiled areas of Louisiana's coast caused by the 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

The study compared erosion from the oil spill with the coastal changes that happened due to Hurricane Issac in 2012.

Researchers used NASA’s annual mapping to evaluate shoreline loss across most of upper Barataria Bay, situated on the west of Mississippi River Delta.

This study compared the shoreline imagery taken a year before the oil spill and the images taken during a 2.5-year span after the spill.

New group appointed to explore Southern North Sea gas reserves

A new steering group consisting of offshore companies was appointed to harness the potential of remaining gas reserves in the Southern North Sea (SNS).

Named SNS Rejuvenation Special Interest Group, the new group is part of an initiative launched by the Oil & Gas Authority (OGA), Oil & Gas UK and the East of England Energy Group (EEEGR).

The group members are Shell, Oranje-Nassau Energie, Premier Oil, ENGIE E&P UK, Centrica, ODE, Aker Solutions, James Fisher & Sons, DNVGL, Sembmarine SLP, Baker Hughes, Lloyds Register, Fraser Well Management, Acteon, SSE and Statoil.

The new group is scheduled to hold its first meeting in December, and its work could help secure the future of offshore oil and gas industry in the East of England for more than two decades.

DEA Norge located oil and gas in southern Barents Sea

DEA Norge encountered an oil and gas discovery in PL609, north of the Snøhvit field.

Earlier this year, the licence partnership successfully created an appraisal well at the Alta discovery.

The drilling campaign of exploration well 7220/6-2 R in the Barents Sea led to a discovery of oil and gas.

Total and SOCAR partner agreed to develop Absheron field in Caspian Sea

Total signed an agreement with Azerbaijan national oil company SOCAR to develop the Absheron gas and condensate field.

Located in the Caspian Sea, the Absheron gas and condensate field was discovered in 2011 and is operated by Total.

BP and GE introduced new digital offshore technology

BP and GE announced the launch of Plant Operations Advisor (POA), a new digital technology solution developed to enhance efficiency, reliability and security of oil and gas operations.

Plant Operations Advisor (POA) is already deployed in one of BP's platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. If satisfied with its performance, the tool will be deployed globally at other BP facilities in 2017.

Built on GE's Predix operating system, the tool was created under a development partnership between the two companies announced in January.
