Ghawar is a producing conventional oil field located onshore Saudi Arabia and is operated by Saudi Arabian Oil. The field is located in block Saudi Aramco Concession Area.
Two expansion projects are associated with the Ghawar conventional oil field, namely Haradh Incremental Project and Hawiyah Incremental Project. The expansion projects are currently in the construction stage, targeting start-up during 2022 – 2024.

Production from Ghawar
The Ghawar conventional oil field recovered 64.94% of its total recoverable reserves, with peak production in 1980. The peak production was approximately 5,555.56 thousand bpd of crude oil and condensate and 2,859 Mmcfd of natural gas. Based on economic assumptions, production will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2081. The field currently accounts for approximately 29% of the country’s daily output.
Remaining recoverable reserves
The field is expected to recover 51,187.35 Mmboe, comprised of 45,110.03 Mmbbl of crude oil & condensate and 36,463.84 bcf of natural gas reserves. Ghawar conventional oil field reserves accounts 11.09% of total remaining reserves of producing conventional oil fields globally.
