Halfaya Heavy Oil Field, Iraq

Halfaya is a producing heavy oil field located onshore Iraq and is operated by PetroChina Halfaya FZ-LLC. The field is located in block Halfaya Contract Area.

The field is owned by China National Petroleum, Ministry of Oil, Iraq, Petroliam Nasional and TotalEnergies.

Production from Halfaya

The Halfaya heavy oil field recovered 15.41% of its total recoverable reserves, with peak production expected in 2023. The peak production will approximately 392 thousand bpd of crude oil and condensate. Based on economic assumptions, production will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2076. The field currently accounts for approximately 5% of the country’s daily output.

The field is expected to recover 3,303.14 Mmboe, comprised of 3,303.14 Mmbbl of crude oil & condensate. Halfaya heavy oil field reserves accounts 7.24% of total remaining reserves of producing heavy oil fields globally.
