Marlim is a producing heavy oil field located in deepwater in Brazil and is operated by Petroleo Brasileiro . The field is located in block MRL (Marlim), with water depth of 3,445 feet.

Two expansion projects are associated with the Marlim heavy oil field, namely Marlim Revitalization Module 1 and Marlim Revitalization Module 2. The expansion projects are currently in the construction stage, targeting start-up during 2023.

Production from Marlim

The Marlim heavy oil field recovered 98.45% of its total recoverable reserves, with peak production in 2002. The peak production was approximately 585.93 thousand bpd of crude oil and condensate and 153 Mmcfd of natural gas. Based on economic assumptions, production will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2025. The field currently accounts for approximately 1% of the country’s daily output.


Remaining recoverable reserves

The field is expected to recover 41.59 Mmboe, comprised of 40.71 Mmbbl of crude oil & condensate and 5.25 bcf of natural gas reserves. Marlim heavy oil field reserves accounts 0.10% of total remaining reserves of producing heavy oil fields globally.
