North Dakota witnessed an increase of 3.57% in total oil and gas production to 12,24,717.94 boe/d in June 2020 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s USL48 database.

The oil and gas production declined 35.66% in June 2020 from 19,03,634.08 boe/d in June 2019. On a YTD basis, the total oil and gas production in 2020 decreased by 10.06% from the same period in 2019.

In June 2020, oil production grew 4.02% to 8,84,033.06 bd as against the previous month, while gas production up by 2.41% to 1,975.97 mmcf/d.

On a YTD basis, oil production decreased by 12.01% in 2020 when compared with the same period in 2019, while gas production declined by 4.48%. Out of the total oil and gas production in June 2020, oil held a 72.18% share, while gas had a 27.82% share.


In North Dakota, Hess emerged as the largest oil and gas producer, recording a total oil and gas production at 1,92,611.81 boe/d in June 2020, a decrease of 2.89% from the previous month. The company held a 15.32% share in oil production and 16.77% share in gas production in June 2020.

On a YTD basis, the company registered a 32.97% increase in total oil and gas production from the same period in 2019.



Compared with other counties in North Dakota, Mckenzie county recorded the highest oil and gas production, holding a 40.4% share in June 2020. The county witnessed a 3.74% increase in production to 4,94,827.32 boe/d in June 2020 when compared with the previous month.

On a YTD basis, Mckenzie registered a decline of 11.78% in total production from the same period in 2019.
