Samurai Conventional Oil Field, US

Samurai is a conventional oil development located in deepwater in the US and is operated by Murphy Exploration & Production. Discovered in 2009, Samurai lies in block Green Canyon 432, Green Canyon 476, Green Canyon 388, Green Canyon 475, and Green Canyon 431, with water depth of around 3,569 feet.

The project is currently in completed stage and is expected to start commercial production in 2022. Final investment decision (FID) of the project was approved in 2019. The development cost is expected to be $616 m. The Samurai conventional oil development will involve the drilling of approximately four wells and includes FPU and subsea trees.

The field is owned by Murphy Oil and Ridgewood Samurai.


Production from Samurai

Production from the Samurai conventional oil development project is expected to begin in 2022 and is forecast to peak in 2023, to approximately 27,247 bpd of crude oil and condensate and 34 Mmcfd of natural gas. Based on economic assumptions, the production will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2054.


Remaining recoverable reserves

The field is expected to recover 106.3 Mmboe, comprised of 88.41 Mmbbl of crude oil & condensate and 107.32 bcf of natural gas reserves.
