Songo Songo is a producing conventional gas field located in shallow water in Tanzania and is operated by PanAfrican Energy Tanzania. The field is located in block Songo Songo, with water depth of 1,641 feet.

Two expansion projects are associated with the Songo Songo conventional gas field, namely Songo Songo Compression Project and Songo Songo Future Development. The expansion projects are currently in the commissioning and feasibility stage.

The field is owned by Orca Energy Group and Swala Oil and Gas (Tanzania).


Production from Songo Songo

The Songo Songo conventional gas field recovered 76.67% of its total recoverable reserves, with peak production in 2019. The peak production was approximately 103 Mmcfd of natural gas. Based on economic assumptions, production will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2037. The field currently accounts for approximately 49% of the country’s daily output.


Remaining recoverable reserves

The field is expected to recover 24.47 Mmboe, comprised of 146.79 bcf of natural gas reserves. Songo Songo conventional gas field reserves accounts 0.01% of total remaining reserves of producing conventional gas fields globally.
