Norwegian oil and gas company Aker BP has signed frame agreements with Simon Møkster Shipping, Eidesvik Offshore and Solstad Offshore for the provision of platform supply vessels (PSVs).

The agreements have an initial duration of three years, with the option of two additional periods of two years each.

Aker BP Improvement senior vice-president Per Harald Kongelf said: “We will together with the three suppliers work towards a more integrated concept involving the entire chain of offshore logistics, where platform supply vessels (PSV) is an essential part.

“The establishment of these frame agreements is the first step towards a strategic partnership with selected suppliers, with the potential to evolve into a future alliance concept.”

Working with the three suppliers, Aker BP will develop commercial compensation models, based on performance driven key performance indicators (KPIs).

The partnership is aimed at securing Aker BP’s need for safe transportation of cargo to offshore fields. The suppliers will collaborate with Aker BP to develop a strategic partnership for platform supply services to serve the company’s installations on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).

In a separate development, Reuters reported that Aker BP is switching its focus from mergers and acquisitions toward exploration as part of its efforts to increase its resources.

This shift was prompted by declining exploration costs due to the introduction of new technologies and the rising cost of acquisitions in the energy sector.

The company discovered an oil and gas reservoir near the Alvheim field in the North Sea in February.
