Aker Solutions has secured a contract from Subsea 7 to deliver umbilicals for Murphy Oil subsidiary Murphy Exploration and Production’s King’s Quay development in the US Gulf of Mexico (GoM).

The King’s Quay host facility is located 175 miles south of New Orleans in the Green Canyon area of the GoM.

Murphy Oil holds a 50% stake in King’s Quay floating production system (FPS) while the remaining interest is held by private equity firm Ridgewood Energy Corporation.

Under the work scope of the contract, Aker Solutions will deliver 22km of dynamic steel-tube umbilicals and distribution equipment to connect the King’s Quay FPS to the Samurai, Khaleesi and Mormont subsea field developments.

Aker Solutions US vice-president and country manager Jonah Margulis said: “We look forward to working with Subsea 7 on one of the largest subsea development projects in the Gulf of Mexico.

“Aker Solutions and Subsea 7 have built a collaborative and high-performing relationship over time, with a strong track-record of excellent project execution.”

The engineering, design, and manufacturing of the umbilicals will take place at the company’s facility in Mobile, Alabama. The distribution equipment will also be designed, engineered and manufactured at the facility.

The contracted work will start with immediate effect while the delivery is planned for the fourth quarter of next year.

Aker Solutions will book the contract as order intake in the second quarter of this year.

In March, Subsea 7 won a subsea installation services contract from Murphy Oil’s subsidiary, pertaining to the Samurai, Khaleesi, and Mormont developments that are planned to be tied back to the King’s Quay FPS.
