Norwegian contractor Aker Solutions has secured a two-year contract extension for maintenance and modifications work from oil exploration and development company Aker BP.

Valued at approximately Nkr1.7bn ($176m), the contract has been awarded for maintenance work at Ula, Skarv, Valhall and Tambar fields in the Norwegian North Sea.

Aker Solutions noted that the contract work will start from 1 December.

The Valhall oil field is located in 70m of water in the southern region of the Norwegian North Sea. It commenced production in 1982 and consists of six platforms and two unmanned flank platforms.

Ula oil field is also located in the southern part and has three platforms and three conventional steel facilities for production, drilling and accommodation.

The Skarv field is located in the northern area of the North Sea at 350m-450m water depth and was brought onstream in 2012. It has an estimated field life of 25 years.

Tambar oil field is located in production licence PL065 in the Norwegian part of the North Sea in a water depth of 68m.

Aker Solutions said that the contract will be booked as order intake in the second quarter of this year.

Aker Solutions brownfield projects executive vice-president Linda L Aase said: “We are delighted to continue to provide maintenance and modifications work for Aker BP.

“Work under the new alliance has proved to be efficient and the alliance has continued to improve deliveries and develop new ways of working.”

In July 2018, Aker BP signed an alliance agreement with Aker Solutions over modification projects on its Valhall, Ula and Skarv fields.
