Subsea equipment specialist Ashtead Technology has won a contract from Ocean Installer to install six integrated template structures in the Barents Sea, offshore Norway.

It will provide its deflection monitoring system (DMS) and experienced field engineers to support its installation.

It said that it received the contract after it completed the subsea installation of nine influx to surface (ITS) units at Equinor’s Askeladd and Johan Castberg fields last year.

Ashtead Technology technical director Ross Macleod said: “We are very pleased to be working again with Ocean Installer in the region, building on the work we undertook in 2019.

“The harsh conditions of the Barents Sea can make data gathering challenging and time-consuming. To date, our DMS technology has allowed us to deliver all nine installations included in the first project safely and well ahead of the original completion date, reducing costs and installation time for Ocean Installer.”

The DMS monitors structures, which supports offshore construction operations. It combines powerful software with modular technology.

Ashtead configured the DMS systems for autonomous independent operation and data communication to a nearby remotely operated vehicle (ROV).

Ocean Installer senior project surveyor Bojan Barisic said: “Having used DMS equipment in the previous ITS installation process, we understand just how important a role it has played in the safe and timely delivery of our projects.

“We are confident in the level of service Ashtead Technology can offer, allowing us to complete critical operations with a high degree of redundancy within the expected accuracy range.”

In January, Ashtead and 4Subsea entered a partnership for the global distribution of sensor technology to the oil and gas industry. The collaboration aims to improve the lifespan of subsea assets.
