French integrated geoscience company CGG has secured a contract from Petronas Carigali to establish a Centre for Advanced Imaging (CAI) for five years.

To be located in the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the centre will be operated by Petronas Carigali, a wholly owned subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Berhad.

CGG CEO Sophie Zurquiyah said: “CGG is well placed to support Petronas Carigali in its ambition to take the technological lead in the upstream E&P business and achieve a sustainable energy future.

“Not only have we worked closely with Petronas Carigali since the early 1990’s, processing data from all of its blocks over the years, Petronas Carigali recognises our commitment to pursuing technical collaboration and developing customised solutions that leverage our technical edge and global expertise.”

“Petronas Carigali recognises our commitment to pursuing technical collaboration and developing customised solutions that leverage our technical edge and global expertise.”

Through the imaging facility, Petronas Carigali will gain access of CGG‘s latest technology and expertise in seismic and multi-physics imaging, as well as reservoir characterisation.

In addition to research and development collaboration, especially in the area of multi-physics, the partnership offers a framework for the technical development of Petronas Carigali employees.

The new CAI will facilitate direct and closer interaction with imaging geophysicists to accelerate customised processing of seismic and multi-physics data from Petronas’ acreage across the globe.

The new hub will give Petronas Carigali access to software suites from CGG Subsurface Imaging, Multi-Physics and GeoSoftware to carry out advanced technical analysis.

Moreover, the CAI will allow Petronas Carigali to explore expansions into multi-disciplinary solutions and look at the potential of Cloud computing and machine learning.
