Australian operator Cooper Energy has announced that it will begin gas production at the Sole gas field in offshore Victoria.
This follows the commissioning of the Orbost gas processing plant, 65km away. APA Group is upgrading the Orbost plant, which received gas from the Eastern gas pipeline.

Situated in water depths ranging between 120m and 130m, the Sole gas field lies in the Australian Gippsland Basin, 45km from Victoria.
Cooper Energy said that following its upgrade the Orbost plant will process gas from the Sole gas field. It has completed the development and commissioning activities of the field.
It also said that the Orbost plant will soon enter its second phase, which will include introducing gas from Sole field. This phase covers the commissioning of raw gas processing facilities.
A plant production test and the start of gas supply from the Sole field will follow this phase.

By GlobalDataCooper Energy anticipates the first gas flow from the Sole field to the Orbost plant later this month. Full-rate production and commercial operation for firm gas supply will follow, next month.
Once operational, it expects the Orbost plant to deliver 68 terajoules per day (TJ/day) into the network.
In June 2018, Cooper Energy completed the reservoir section of Sole-3 production well for the Sole gas project.
In November 2017, APA Group acquired the existing Orbost gas plant and the export pipeline to the Eastern gas pipeline.
