US-based engineering company Emerson has received a $14m contract to deliver automation technologies for a new offshore platform in the Caspian Sea.

The contract works are expected to enable the BP-operated Azeri Central East offshore platform to become onstream in 2023.

As agreed, Emerson will serve as the main automation contractor and deliver digital twin solutions and cloud engineering services, as part of its Project Certainty methodologies, to accelerate project execution.

The digital twin solution allows virtual testing and system integration during the construction of the platform to ensure a safe start-up. On the other hand, Cloud engineering enables global collaboration to reduce engineering costs and time.

Emerson will also deploy the DeltaV automation system that controls critical safety functions.

The automation technologies also help in remote monitoring and identifying safety risks. Overall, more than 1,000 Emerson measurement instruments will be connected through wired and wireless networks to monitor pressure, flow, temperature and pipework corrosion.
