Norwegian firm Equinor, alongside partners ExxonMobil and Petrogal Brasil, has awarded drilling and well service contracts valued at about $455m.

The drilling and well service contracts are for work on the Bacalhau field offshore Brazil.

The partners have awarded the contracts to oil services firms Baker Hughes, Halliburton, and Schlumberger.

Equinor noted that the contracts have a ‘firm period’ of four years and two two-year options.

Equinor operates the Bacalhau field, with a 40% stake. Other partners include ExxonMobil (40%), Petrogal Brasil (20%) and Pré-sal Petróleo as a non-investor government agency.

The field lies 185km from the coast of São Paulo, at a depth of 2,050m.

Equinor chief procurement officer Krantz-Underland said: “The awards build further on our positive cooperation experience with the three selected suppliers in our projects worldwide. They will be essential to ensure safe and efficient drilling and well operations on the Bacalhau field.”

Work covered by the contract awarded to Baker Hughes involves completion of drilling services.

Halliburton’s work will cover intervention services and liner hanger.

Meanwhile, Schlumberger will provide wireline services.

Equinor project development acting senior vice-president Trond Bokn said: “Brazil is a core area for Equinor, and Bacalhau is an important asset in the Brazilian pre-salt Santos area.

“Together with our partners, we are currently maturing the project towards a final investment decision (FID) which is planned in 2021.”

In February, Aibel secured work for the FPSO vessel for Bacalhau field. This contract after Japanese firm Modec secured a contract from Equinor for a complete FPSO for the field.
