Equinor has secured consent to use the Martin Linge platform at the Martin Linge oil and gas field located on the Norwegian North Sea.

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) also authorised the company to use the related pipelines and onshore control room for commissioning and operations.

In a press statement, PSA said: “The consent is based, among other things, on the documentation submitted in connection with the application and documentation associated with our follow-up of the Martin Linge development.”

Located about 42km west of Oseberg in a water depth of 115m, the Martin Linge field was discovered in 1978.

The Martin Linge field development involves a jacket-based integrated wellhead, production and accommodation platform and a permanently anchored floating storage and offloading (FSO) unit.

Production from the field will be transported through a new pipeline to the existing pipeline going to St Fergus, Scotland.

Following processing on the storage vessel, the oil will be transported from the field in shuttle tankers.

The project partners include Equinor (70%) and Petoro (30%).

Separately, the PSA has authorised Spirit Energy Norway to use the facilities on the Vale field until 11 June 2023, beyond their original lifespan.

By securing consent to extend the field’s life, Spirit Energy intends to recover the remaining reserves on the field located in the Central North Sea, 16km north of the Heimdal field.

PSA said that Spirit Energy’s documentation of assessments conclude that the facilities can continue safe operations while complying with the regulations.
